OS/400 Upgrade Considerations

Tape Drive Considerations (ATTN: 6385,6485)

If your AS/400 is currently equipped with a 13GB tape drive (6385 or 6485), you will be required to upgrade to the 30GB tape drive before installing V5R2. We will be glad to help you determine if your machine will require a tape drive upgrade.

If you need a tape drive, one will automatically be configured for you at the time this order is submitted. If you need to upgrade your tape drive and you buy now with this upgrade, you will get a substantial discount - as opposed to buying separately.

* When V5R2 is installed on an AS/400 with the 13GB tape drive, the install will not find a back up system and will abort.

If you need to upgrade your tape drive and you are doing it here, there will be a charge that will be billed to you later. If you would like to issue a PO for this, please put that information in the "COMMENT" section at the bottom of the form.

Disk (DASD) Utilization Considerations

As you know, OS upgrades are usually larger than your current OS. If you have been working efficiently with your current configuration, upgrading could adversely affect your performance. If your current disk utilization is 50% or greater or if you are unsure, consider loading MPG's Performance Navigator prior to upgrade. Running a thorough analysis of your system's capacity is a great way to see if you are going to operate at the same performance level post-upgrade.

Performance Navigator is a FREE download right from our site and will provide you with a complete analysis of your system's capacity and performance data using easy to read charts and graphs. If you want to go ahead and download your FREE copy of Performance Navigator now, just click here.
